This certification course satisfies the 24 Hour Family Childcare Pre-Service training. Gain a broad overview of major concepts, theories and research related to the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of the child from birth through age 12. This course covers 4 hours in each of the following domains, community, child development, special needs, curriculum, professionalism, and health safety and nutrition, required to meet MSDE Family Childcare training module outcomes. You must successfully complete all course requirements to receive a certificate. Aligns with MD Staff Credential levels 2-4. Students will earn 24 clock hours of approved training: for initial registration for home daycare. Students will receive 24 clock hours of approved MSDE training that includes 4 clock hours in each of the six core of knowledge competencies.

Method of delivery: Class is 100% online with has no classroom meetings. Students are required to self-pace which begins at time of registration.

NOTE: If you have been issued a voucher from MSDE for this course it MUST be completed 2 weeks before the expiration date that is on your voucher. Please check your voucher for this date.

 

B. Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training, the learner will be able to:

  2. Give examples of ways to apply and model ethical behavior and professional integrity with families.
  3. Identify the importance of professional development for child care professionals and strategies to make meaningful choices.
  4. Identify the components of a lesson plan for mixed age groups.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of an IEP and removing barriers
  6. Identify stages and milestones of development for ages 1 to 5
  7. Define what is an emergency and the legal requirements for emergency preparedness for child care professionals.
  8. Demonstrate understanding of the components of an emergency preparedness plan.
  9. Identify stages and milestones of physical and cognitive development ages 6-13.
  10. Identify a variety of marketing platforms to promote childcare programs.
  11. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of room arrangement/environment.
  12. Demonstrates understanding of community organizations that support early childhood programs.
  13. Demonstrate understanding of optimal room arrangements for family child care settings and their components.
  14. Define culture and cultural competency
  15. Define Developmentally Appropriate Practice
  16. Demonstrate an understanding of how environment and equipment modifications support individual needs.
  17. Identify theory and theorist in relation to child development.
  18. Demonstrate an understanding of typical and atypical development from birth to age 2..
  19. Demonstrate an understanding of inclusionary practices.
  20. Identify the components of positive relationships with children, co-workers and families.
  21. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of culture and diversity in relation to school readiness.
  22. Demonstrate an understanding of typical and atypical development from age 2 to 5.
  23. Demonstrate Understanding of Meal Planning for young children.
  24. Demonstrate an understanding of how to develop appropriate daily schedules that promote routines. (1 hr)
  25. Identify different types of barriers for mixed ages with disabilities and ways to adapt curriculum to fit their needs.
  26. Identify appropriate practice for the identification, prevention, and treatment of communicable diseases in childcare.
  27. Demonstrate understanding of the steps and procedures for reporting accidents
  28. Identify common mental health disorders in children and the importance of early intervention.
  29. Demonstrate understanding of an IFSP and removing barriers
  30. Define basic skills children should have when they begin kindergarten
  31. Describe the importance of monitoring the family child care environment for potential risks.
  32. Identify different learning styles and how to differentiate instruction to meet a child's needs.
  33. Demonstrate an understanding of the ADA.
  34. Identify strategies to ensure appropriate infant and toddler supervision.
  35. Identify the role of family in society
  36. Demonstrate understanding of the content and implications of OCC environment regulations and supervision requirements
  37. Identify necessary information and format for a business plan
  38. Identify budget line items and basic budget development strategies
Criteria to earn CEUs:
Certificates are awarded when the following criteria have been met by the learner:
  1. Class has been paid in full
  2. All material has been reviewed
  3. All review questions and final test have been completed with a passing score of 80% or higher.
Learning Assessment Method:
Learners will be assessed through questions after every section is completed. Learners will not be allowed to proceed to the next section of the training until all questions have been answered correctly. Learners will be presented with a final test composed of true/false and multiple choice questions. Upon successful completion of the training, learners will receive their certificate by email.

Learning Methodology:
Online material will be presented in the form of slides, accompanied with speech. Videos will be used to demonstrate ideas and concepts. Charts and tables will be used for illustration.

Logistics/Required Technology:
A stable internet connection is required for the completion of this course. Users are highly encouraged to take their online course on Google Chrome on either a laptop or desktop computer. Speakers and/or headphones are also required to hear speech.
