45 Hour Infant and Toddler Methods and Materials - $399

ChildCareEds 45-Hour Infant and Toddler Curriculum Course is your essential gateway to a fulfilling career in infant and toddler child care. This course equips you with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide the best care and education to infants and toddlers, from birth to age 3. By understanding the unique needs and developmental milestones of this age group, you become an essential caregiver who shapes the early experiences of these young learners, setting them on a path to lifelong success. 

Format: 26 hours of Zoom/19 hours of online


Requirements and Expectations of students:
100% Completion of Online Modules: All online modules must be completed by the last day of class.

100% Participation: Each participant is expected to contribute to class discussions in an active and professional manner, supporting the participation of other class members. Your contributions are to be based on an informed and professional position.

100% Attendance: Because this is an interactive class, attendance is not only important but vital. An excused absence requires a note from a physician. Certain family emergencies may qualify for an excused absence. All missed work from an excused partial missed class must be made up by the next class session. A full day of missed classes must be made up in the next 45-hour Zoom session.

This Methods and Materials Training (this is the instructor-led version of the online Curriculum training) satisfies half of the MSDE requirement of 90 hours for child care teachers and directors. This course and a 45-hour growth and development course are required to complete the 90-hour certification for child care. If you have been issued a voucher from MSDE for this course it MUST be completed 2 weeks before the expiration date that is on your voucher. Please check your voucher for this date. Training Approval number PSO-30299 Aligns with MD Staff Credential levels 2-4. Earns 4.5 CEUs/45 clock hours.

B. Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training, the learner will be able to:
  1. Identify resources addressing health, safety and nutrition topics (CPR, 911, CDC, WIC, Poison Control)
  2. Identify strategies for providing appropriate care for infants and toddlers with chronic health issues
  3. Identify recommended medical and immunization schedules for children birth through age three
  4. Identify strategies for integrating culture and diversity into an infant and toddler program
  5. Identify strategies for effective communication with families.
  6. Define the term multiculturalism and how it relates to the child's environment.
  7. Describe the importance of responding sensitively to differences in individual communication styles.
  8. Recognize the importance of the use of developmental screenings.
  9. Recognize the importance of observing and gathering information related to children and youth's development.
  10. Recognize the importance of accurate and efficient documentation of observations and assessments.
  11. Define and identify common signs and behaviors of children and youth with hemophilia.
  12. Demonstrate understanding of inclusionary practices for hemophilia in the child care setting.
  13. Identify the benefits of observation and assessment.
  14. Define culture and cultural competency
  15. Demonstrate understanding of using assessment and observations for short and long term goal development for ages birth to three.
  16. Describe the impact of culture on infant and toddler development
  17. Identify ways to interact respectfully and appropriately in a variety of cultural contexts
  18. Identify ways to help parents and infants/toddlers handle separation and attachment.
  19. Demonstrate an understanding of how environment and equipment modifications support individual needs.
  20. Define and identify common signs and behaviors of children and youth with hearing loss.
  21. Demonstrate understanding of inclusionary practices for hearing loss in the childcare setting.
  22. Demonstrate an understanding of typical and atypical development from birth to age 2..
  23. Demonstrate an understanding of inclusionary practices.
  24. List resources and the referral process for infants and toddlers with a suspected/diagnosed disability.
  25. Demonstrate understanding of how to assess and meet the needs of children with special needs.
  26. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of culture and diversity in relation to school readiness.
  27. Identify appropriate practice for the identification, prevention, and treatment of communicable diseases in childcare.
  28. Demonstrate how to develop policies and procedures that promote good hygiene
  29. Demonstrate an understanding of how to implement an Individual Family Support Plan.
  30. Explain the importance of two-way communication.
  31. Demonstrate understanding of developing strategies for involving parents in the child care setting.
  32. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of parent/caregiver relationship
  33. Identify assessment tools.
  34. Demonstrate an understanding of the ADA.
  35. Demonstrate an understanding of diverse perspectives, and navigate the ambiguity and complexity that comes with that.
  36. Demonstrate an understanding of the information that should be communicated regularly with staff, parents, and the community
